About
November 20th - 23rd 2025 - Hosted by Alliance Française Vancouver, V-Unframed is an immersive art exhibition with a focus on XR (VR, AR, MR). The event was originally started as Recto VRSO in 2019 and with a name change in 2021 has been running yearly ever since.
This year was the second year at Alliance Française's new building, and brought in a new one day industry event to kick off the weekend (Friday, November 21st). There were also some school trips that took place the week before the event (Monday November 17th and 18th).
Our Contribution
We were proud to be one of the 16 different artists/contributors at the show taking up around 300 square feet on the main floor in a space shared with Let's Draw.
This was our biggest exhibition of the year and we had been working toward it since mid-summer.
The content idea remained the same as the previous installations, depict 4 starting points for Vancouver's video game industry (Hardware, Educational Software, Game Development, and Distribution/Publishing).
We also teased a little bit of the bigger picture with one of the first game consoles manufactured in Canada, the bridge from there to the first software developed for a console in BC, and a bit from a company from later on to show growth.
It included all of the pieces we had been developing all the way along:
- Digital Exploded View - Expanded to include a second console (Coleco Telstar Alpha - Canadian model) and a new interface
- Console Podiums - 2 physical artifacts to go along with the Exploded View
- Artifact Wall - Expanded to include 12 items giving a bit more of a timeline within the 4 companies as starting points for Vancouver's game industry
- Digital Twin - Expanded to two pages of content to house all 12 items, and one digital item
- Player Personality Type Quiz - Made in Unity using images from Canadian made games
- Projection Wall - Placed over the artifacts to add supplemental video, images, light and animation
- Black and White TVs - Used to supplement projection for 2 different games, broadcast over short range
- Radical Entertainment Prototype Jacket - A prototype jacket from the main character of [PROTOTYPE2], representing the final game from a company in the later era
