Who are We?

The Canadian Video Game Museum (CVGM) is a pioneering initiative dedicated to celebrating and preserving Canada’s contributions to video games. The founding team brings a multidisciplinary perspective, drawing from experience in game development, animation, art, design, and game history research, reflecting the diversity of Canada’s game development ecosystem.

Our Mission

The museum aims to spotlight games developed in Canada or featuring Canadian content, exploring the country’s unique influence on global gaming culture and its artistic and technological innovations. What sets the CVGM apart is its commitment to innovation in audience engagement. Designed as a gamified experience, the museum uses an industry-informed approach to turn exhibitions into playable narratives. Visitors will not only learn about video games but also explore the technical and creative processes behind them.

History & Trajectory

Starting research for this project began all the way back in 2015 beginning with a database of game companies that have existed in Vancouver, later expanding to include all of BC.
Over time this concept evolved recognizing a need for a physical entity to spread awareness and education around game development and Canada's role in the game industry.
The CDM was chosen as a location to incubate the idea, due to its connections to the local community and its focus on creating high caliber teams using cutting edge technology to solve real-world digital media focused problems.
Today the concept is evolving out of that initial incubation stage, advancing its digital exhibit prototypes towards a final deployable product, and raising awareness through pop-up events as it looks for a more permanent home.
